Tristan Hodge creates a simple Italian seasonal menu inspired by the collection of recipes in Phaidon’s The Silver Spoon. Other influences for the menu come from chefs Giorgio Locatelli and Guy Grossi, to name a few. Fairfield RSL is a surprisingly beautiful location with tasteful fountains and soft lighting at the entrance. La Tratt is a welldesigned space with high ceilings, giving a feeling of airiness and space. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, offering the right amount of advice and appearing at just the right times.
The menu is a good balance of Italian cuisines with a twist and heavily favours high-quality produce. With a rooftop herb garden and beehives, the freshness of the ingredients shines through in each dish. The delicious arrosto di pesce features Palmers Island roast mulloway accompanied by confit celeriac puree, tomato and green olive, while the torta di carne di cervo (venison pie) is a perfect portion size, and well suited to the winter menu.
