Gert De Mangeleer on 'Fine Wines & Food Fair' in Portugal

THE NAMES OF THE FIRST TOP CHEFS AND PRODUCERS ARE CONFIRMED FOR PORTUGAL’S MOST ANTICIPATED GASTRONOMIC EVENT: THE FINE WINES & FOOD FAIR, 15th to 20th May

The names of the first set of chefs and producers in the stellar culinary lineup for the much-anticipated Fine Wines & Food Fair have just been announced. The programme for this remarkable gastronomic week, which is hosted at VILA VITA Parc Resort & Spa, in Porches, Algarve, includes five unique, themed dinners and a singular lunch, that will take place at the Atlântico restaurant and at Ocean restaurant at VILA VITA Parc, as well as at Praia Dourada restaurant, located directly on the beach in Armação de Pêra.

These events will feature over 40 top chefs, wine and gourmet producers, including the world class maestros: Eckart Witzigmann, Gert De Mangeleer, Klaus Erfort and Paolo Casagrande.

On the 16th of May, the night will be entirely dedicated to Switzerland with an impressive cast of renowned Swiss chefs, followed by the Young Austrian Stars Dinner on the 17th of May featuring some of the best young Austrian chefs and wine producers. On the 18th of May, the VILA VITA All Star Dinner will bring some of the world’s top chefs back to VILA VITA Parc. On Friday, the 19th of May, the day will be entirely dedicated to Spanish flavours with the Chiringuito Chic-Barcelona Style lunch at the Praia Dourada restaurant at Armação de Pêra beach, and the Spanish Star Night Dinner at the Ocean Restaurant, hosting a selection of some of the best Spanish chefs and top wine producers.

Highlights of the week include the Bordeaux Imperial Evening with René Gabriel “The Wine Pope”, on the 15th May, and the Kitchen Party on the final evening, the 20th May. The first night will feature a curated selection of eight outstanding Bordeaux wines, all above 94 Parker points, in 6lt Imperial bottles, from the renowned wine connoisseur René Gabriel, known as “The Wine Pope”. Amongst this selection are wines such as the 1995 Cos d’Estournel, the 1999 Monbousquet or the 2000 Pichon Baron. The wines, from the Margaux, St. Estephe, St. Emilion, Pauillac, Pomerol and Sauternes regions, will be served in GABRIEL-GLAS glasses and will be paired with the magnificent creations of five world-class chefs, including Eckart Witzigmann from Ikarus at Hangar 7 and Silvio Nickol from Palais Coburg (four Gault &, Millau toques).

The Kitchen Party on the 20th of May, an extraordinary tasting experience, will offer 350 guests the opportunity to savour the amazing creations of over 20 of the World’s top chefs, accompanied by some of the best international wines and gourmet delicacies. Amongst the acclaimed chefs for this evening are Jacob-Jan Boerma from De Leest restaurant, Nigel Haworth from Northcote restaurant in the UK, Sergi Arola from LAB by Sergi Arola, Juan Amador from Wirtshaus Amador restaurant (three Gault Millau Toques), Henrique Sá Pessoa from Alma restaurant in Lisbon, Rui Paula from Casa de Chá da Boa Nova restaurant and Karlheinz Hauser from Seven Seas restaurant in Germany.

Amongst the 20 producers are Herdade dos Grous, Imperial Caviar, Dirk Neipoort from Nierpoort Wines in Douro, Alvaro Palacios from Spain, and the wines from Domaine de Trimbach in France.
